The FKF Women’s Cup preliminary round is set to kick off on February 17, 2024, where six matches are set to take place, with the winners of this round qualifying to compete in the competition’s round of 16.
Saturday will feature a doubleheader at ABSA Grounds where Nairobi Starlets will take on Royal Starlets in the early noon kick-off while NYS Queens will contest against 2023’s second-place finishers Nakuru City Queens.
At Sudi stadium in Bungoma, Milima Queens will host Gaspo Women while on Sunday, February 18, 2024, will feature Kenya Police Bullets vs Embu Queens, Ulinzi Starlets against TUK Ravens and Makolanders meet KISPED Queens.
The third edition of the 2024 FKF Women’s Cup draw took center stage on Friday, January 26, 2024, at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE).
In the draw conducted by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), a total of 22 teams participated, comprising 8 FKF Women Premier League clubs, 4 FKF Women Super League clubs, 6 Women Division One clubs, and 4 regional and county clubs.
“To ensure a fair competition, the teams were divided into two pots based on their rankings. Pot A housed the highest-ranked teams, while Pot B consisted of the lower-ranked sides. The first 12 teams drawn were allocated to the preliminary stage, while the remaining 10 secured an automatic entry into round of 16,” noted FKF in a statement.
In the last edition, Ulinzi Starlets successfully defended their title after defeating Nakuru City Queens 3-1 in the second edition of the FKF Women’s Cup at Nyayo Stadium on June 4, 2023.
In the third-place play-off match, FKF Women Division one side Kibera Soccer Ladies pulled off a surprising 4-2 win over Kisumu Allstarlets.
Defending champions Ulinzi Starlets walked home with a coveted trophy and prize-worthy Kshs. 500,000, Nakuru City Queens Kshs. 250,000 and Kibera Soccer Ladies received Kshs. 100,000
