Former Nzoia Sugar FC Chairman Evans Kadenge has landed a new opportunity, after being appointed to the Vihiga County Sports Management Committee.
An instrumental figure in the Kenyan football industry, Kadenge seems to be following in the footsteps of his father, renowned legend Joe Kadenge who made headlines with AFC Leopards and Harambee Stars.
Acting as a committee member, the former attacking midfield maestro was appointed alongside eleven other officials under the Vihiga County Sports Management Act, 2019, and will serve for 3 years.
“In EXERCISE of the powers conferred by sections 5 (1) of the Vihiga County Sports Management Act, 2019, the County Executive Committee member for Gender, Culture, Youth, Sports and Social Services, County Government of Vihiga hereby appoints the persons named in the first column of the Schedule to the County Sports Management Committee for three (3) years,” read the Gazette Notice No. 548 of the County Governments ACT.
Before his new role, Kadenge served as the chairman of Kenya Premier League (KPL) side Nzoia Sugar FC, retiring his duties to previous chairman Yappets Ngisa Mokua. He also played for the Millers back in the 1980s, before coaching them for several years.
Kadenge’s memorable journey in professional football dates back to 1983, when he signed for Nzoia Sugar FC, having just finished his secondary school education at Mbale Boys in Vihiga. He was 20 years old, and he says it is his talent that enabled him to be employed later by Nzoia Sugar Company in August 1984.
On 1st June 2003, he won the Kenyan Premier League title after beating Tusker 2-1 at Nyayo National Stadium. The scorers were Bernard Mwalala and Hillary Echesa.
In 2013, Kadenge resigned as the coach, citing pressure from work. He was later re-appointed as the team manager in 2016 with Bernard Mwalala as the head coach, and the same year they won the National Super League to qualify to KPL. He was also voted in as the second-best team manager of the year during the SOYA awards.
