The highly anticipated 10-round World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Middleweight title bout between Kenyan boxer Rayton Okwiri ‘Boom Boom” and Tanzanian boxer Meshack Mwankemwa is scheduled to take place on March 30th, 2024, at Charter Hall Nairobi.
This is the First Nairobi Fight Night event with 12 undercards, boxers lined up from Mauritius, Canada, UK and France. The winner of the main card qualifies for the WBF World title. Fight Night organized by Solid Rock Promotion in collaboration with AiWEx Sports and Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) will secure a direct ticket for the world title this year.
Tickets are already on sale on the digital platform Mtickets with Regular, VIP, and VVIP tickets retailing at Sh1000, Sh 2000 and Sh 5000 respectively.
Okwiri, aiming to become a celebrated world champion by his 40th birthday, is a seasoned Olympian and four-time African Boxing Union (ABU) title holder. Confident in his abilities, Okwiri has warned Mwankemwa to prepare for a tough fight, stating that the Tanzanian may struggle to make it past the first round.
The main fight card comes fresh after the World Alliance Boxing Association (WABA) Africa middleweight title win over Malawi’s Chikonda Makawa in September last year. Despite his non-title fight against Limbani Chikapa set to take place in Mauritius last month postponed. Okwiri is ready to bout for the vacant belt, allowing him to add a 10th win owing to his 9-1-1 record.
Having defeated notable Tanzanian boxers in the past, including Shabani Ndaro, Hussein Itaba, Pascal Kimario, Imani Daudi, and Saleh Mkalekwa, Okwiri enters the ring with a proven track record of success.
On the other hand, Mwankemwa, also known as Smart Boy, is no stranger to challenging opponents, having faced boxers in Europe, Russia, and Kazakhstan. With both fighters boasting confidence in their abilities, the upcoming match promises to be a thrilling showdown between two skilled competitors.
