29 Coaches Graduated as FKF CAF D Course for Lang’ata Region Culminated, earning their CAF D certificate on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
The CAF D Coaching Course, which is the most basic level certification for coaches, has been a good starting point for former players who have hung boots to find a safe haven in transitioning from life after football, to Coaching.
Most notable are two football players, AFC Leopard’s Kevin Kimani and former Posta Rangers’ Danson Kago highlighting the growing importance of planning for life beyond the pitch.
“A professional football player’s career lasts a few years, making it important for football players to consider their post-football futures. This aligns perfectly with the Football Kenya Federation’s mission to establish a clear pathway for players to transition into other roles within football and in this case a coaching career,” noted FKF in a statement.
Speaking to the media after graduating, renowned player Kevin Kimani – current AFC Leopards prodigy – bears ambition to coach at the highest levels after retirement.
“I’m happy to have such a platform as I am planning to retire soon. I had a plan that I should start doing something so that when I retire, I transition into coaching. For me, it’s all about the love of the game and coming from a place where we didn’t have qualified coaches and through the help of our federation, we are able to get something most people are not privileged to,” noted Kimani.
On his part, former Posta Rangers player Danson Kago who has just retired from professional football and looks to give back to his community through football stated that the course will help him as he embarks on mentoring young upcoming talents.
“There’s life after football being an active player for the past 16 seasons I thought it is wise for me to get a coaching certificate to be able to mentor players back in my hood and pass the baton to the next generation,” noted Kago.
